Prithivi Narayan Shah

Prithivi Narayan Shah was the eldest  son of Narabhupal Shah, the then King of Gorkha and his second Queen Kaushalyawati . he was born on 27thPoush, 1779 (11thjanauary, 1723). Narabhupal had four queens. Prithivi Narayan Shah was looked after by Chandra Prabhawati, the eldest queen of Narabhupal Shah. She taught him the Ramayan, the Mahabharat, Shukraniti, diplomacy and politics. She also trained him horse riding, sword-fighting, archery and kept him far away from the fruitless pleasure.
At the age of 14, Prathivi Narayan Shah was married to 12 years old IndraKumari, the princess of Makwanpur (the daughter of HemkarnaSen and the sister of DigbandanSen). But this relation did not last longer as there was dispute between the in-laws. Prithivi Narayan Shah had a second marriage with NarendraLaxmi, the daughter of Abhiman Singh, a Rajput of Benaras in 1796 BS. His second father-in law helped him a lot in his unification campaign by providing him experienced warriors to train the Gorkha soldiers as well as manufacuture arms and weapons. Prithivi Narayan Shah had a sworn friendship (Miteri) with BirnarsinghMalla, the crown prince of Bhaktapur. Thus, there was a good relation between Gorkha and Bhaktapur. Prithivi Narayan Shah ascended the throne of gorkha in 1799 BS, at the age of 20.
