Gehendra Shumsher Rana

Gehendrashumsher was the son of BirShumsher. He was born in 1928 BS. He got his educations from Durbar High School.
He was active, creative and serious in his childhood. He was interested in music, sports and studies. He was appointed in charge of arms and ammunition in his early age by his father. His father inspired him in his work. He established industries to manufacture arms and ammunition for the soldiers.
In 1956, he imported a car from England and studied it in detail about every parts of that motor car so that he could manufacture similar motor car in future. He was very curious and creative. Simply going through the books and catalogues brought from Japan and England, he was able to make double barrel rifle and named Ge-Rifle. He aslomade double barrel gun and named it ‘Birgun’. He made cannon and named it after his grandfather’s name ‘Dhirgun”.
He generated electricity for the first time in Nepal. He was assisted by his friend Muse Thapa in this invention. He also invented rich mill and water pump.
After the death of his father, DevShumsherbecome the prime minister of Nepal. He sent gehendraShumsher to Japan to learn Japanese technology. GehendraShumsher is regarded as the first scientist of Nepal. He died at the age of 35 in 1963 BS. He did a great job and serve the nation. He would have done more if he had lived a long life.
